The week of Thanksgiving is a busy time at Ashland High School, especially this year, with the return of the traditional Powderpuff game to add to the hectic schedule of the hall decorating contest, the pep rally, and many Thanksgiving food drives.
Although the annual Powderpuff was cancelled last year due to poor spirit and conduct between the juniors and seniors, Powderpuff will continue this year with new rules to establish long-lasting positivity. To avoid expensive sweatshirts and/or shirts, there is a limit on apparel to $15 per person. Additionally, seniors will always have the color black, while juniors will always have the color white for any Powderpuff apparel. In order to make Powderpuff a more positive experience, junior and senior class officers, such as Cassidy Firth and Marisa Walsh, have also coordinated with Mr. Quigley, Mrs. St.Coeur, and Mrs. Forger and held practices between the junior and senior girls. Keep up the good work girls!
The spirit week dress-up days will be the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Monday is Ashland Pride Day, Tuesday is Flannel Day, and Wednesday is class color day. Along with these dress-up days, student council will also run Name That Tune and bingo during lunch.
The Thanksgiving pep rally is on the early release day on November 26th, 2014. Classes will be shortened to about 30 minutes each, and then classes will go to the school auditorium. The pep rally will be featuring the new clocker mascot again, a gift from the Class of 2014, who runs around bringing spirit and cheer throughout the different school grades.
One of the main events will be the Hamster Ball Race! Student Council has been holding a coin drive this week, where students put in coins for the teacher they want to compete in the Hamster Ball Race. The top five teachers will be picked, and the top five students will be picked from a raffle ticket they receive from donating (students who have not donated can also receive one if they wish). The last time Student Council had a Hamster Ball Race was in the Thanksgiving Rally in 2010, so everyone is excited to see students and teachers race in giant hamster balls this year! All funds go to the Ashland Emergency
Mr. Wurster will be making an announcement regarding his school event “Survivor,” and Mr. Quigley will make announcements about the Thanksgiving football game on November 27th. The Ashland football team will be against our rivals Hopkinton, so come cheer them on Thanksgiving morning at 10 AM! Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults.
