Meet Our Presidential Candidates

“The first duty of a man is to think for himself”

― José Martí

There’s less than thirty days until America has a new president, so it's about time we get acquainted with our candidates of the 2016 campaign.

Hillary Clinton: Democratic Nominee

One word to describe Hillary Clinton is indefatigable, she's a resilient woman who's been fighting for a voice in a man lead political world for decades. She was born in Chicago and raised by a middle-class protestant family. Rodham was vigorously active in school being part of student council, swimming, softball, baseball, newspaper, and the National Honor Society. Hillary's training to be president started in high school where she was class vice president during her junior year. But in her senior year, she lost and claims that one of the boys said: "you are really stupid if you think a girl can be elected president.”

After high school, she attended Wellesley College where she majored in political science. While in college, she organized a two-day student strike and worked with Wesley afro-descendent students to recruit more afro-descendent faculty and students.

Rodham later attended Yale law school where she met Bill Clinton and received a degree in law. She went on to research on migrant workers, problems in housing, education, childhood brain development, and various other subjects.

She settled as a teacher at the University of Arkansas in 1974, where she was one of the only two female staff members at the university. About a year later she and bill Clinton got married. She was first lady of Arkansas, then the first lady of the United States when Clinton was elected president in 1993.

Rodham moved on to becoming U.S. senate in 2001, the first first lady to ever win a public office. Then she became the 67th U.S. secretary of state serving until 2013. Now she is the first female presidential nominee of a major U.S. political party in united states history, and, who knows, maybe she'll be the first Female president.

Donald Trump: Republican Nominee

Donald trump was born in Queens, NY into a wealthy family. At the age of thirteen due to being an energetic child, his parents sent him off to military school where he graduated as a star athlete.

Trump went on to attend the Fordham University and after two years he transferred to the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. There he got a degree in economics. After graduating, he expanded his father's real estate construction company and later, in 1971, he was given control of the company which he renamed the Trump organization. At the same time, he moved to Manhattan because of its economic opportunities.

Trump became very successful, his empire flourished and his buildings stunned the world with their attractive architectural designs. In 1977 he married Ivana Zelnickova a beautiful new york fashion model, and had three children.

Unfortunately, in the early 90's his empire got extremely close to declaring bankruptcy, and it took a lot but Trump was able to stabilize the company again. However, his marriage didn't survive the crises and they got divorced.

He remarried a year later to Marla Maple, an actress with whom he already had a child. The marriage didn't last and in 1997 they got divorced. Trump only remarried in 2006 with Melania Trump and they had a child and are still together today. We often see her supporting him in debates and press conferences. Later in his life, Trump went into cinematography, participating in the NBC reality show the apprentice, which was a huge a success and had various spin-offs.

Now the big question here is, do you know who you're rooting for? If you don't it’s totally ok. But this government is ours and no matter who is running it, it will always affect us, so we have to strive to understand what's going on and not let the system control it all. But if you're one of those people who thinks the system is corrupt and every candidate is a liar, for now think about who is the less worse choice, later think about how you can change that. Voting is extremely important, it's our control over government, our voice of liberty, it shouldn't ever be wasted, so if you ever look at a voting ballot you should feel confident in your decision and that confidence should come from time, research and long nights of reflection.
