AHS Robotics’ Second Annual Robot Rodeo

No, there’s nothing that’s actually rodeo-y or Wild West-y about this event, except me saying things like “Yeehaw mateys” and using “y’all” in club emails. In reality, the Robot Rodeo is an event for younger grades to learn about robotics and engineering, hosted by the AHS Robotics Club. All proceeds go to funding the AHS Robotics Club’s participation in the Botball competition.

All day long, kids of all ages can explore the multiple aspects of engineering through interesting, educational stations featuring radical robots and chances for them to build their own contraptions.

In addition to classic stations like Mindstorm and Snap Circuit and laser battles (with robots, of course), we had several new stations this year thanks to the tireless work of our very own geek squad. For example, at the wildly popular Botsled station, kids built sleds (which didn’t always look sled-like) and raced them down a ramp to test their mechanical design’s aerodynamic and physical effectiveness. This year, we also showcased our new robots, Cozmo and Dash, unbelievably adorable and engaging contraptions.

The Robotics Club put in hours of planning and gluing and cutting and taping to make this past Saturday’s event possible. To all of the volunteers, thank you for your hard work. I can’t wait to see what you come up with next year. The third annual Robot Rodeo will undoubtedly be an even bigger hit in the community.
