Opinions on Homework on the Holidays

There are many opinions on whether or not teachers should give homework over the holidays. Some people argue that students should get a break; while others argue that it is necessary to ensure that students remember the material. “It takes away from spending time with family,” says one student. This raises the question: Are school vacations considered family-reconnecting time? Again, this question is very controversial. Another student says, “[homework] is a good idea, it refreshes concepts learned in class”. It’s obvious students have very different opinions on this subject. A common thought is that it is ok to have a little homework to refresh the concepts but no tests or major projects should be assigned. I decided to ask a teacher to get another perspective. She said, “I try to avoid homework as much as possible over vacation. Students need a break and so do teachers”. Although there are many opinions on whether or not students should have homework over holidays, in the end, it really depends on what the teacher thinks.
